The automatic control software course “Introduction to PID Control” deals with the following subjects:
- The characterization of linear transfer elements by their step response and the graphical evaluation of their characteristic values
- The choosing of a suitable controller type depending on the type of plant
- The qualitative evaluation of the control system dynamics based on specific performance criteria (reference/disturbance reaction, overshooting, settling time, …)
- The direction of action of single controller parameters on the behaviour of the closed loop system and the definition of the parameters with different design methods
- The influence of nonlinearities (e. g. actuator limitations) on the control system dynamics
